Ecological Inference for Conservation

Teaching and supervision

Quantitative ecological and sustainability modelling, from assumptions and data to decisions.

Teaching focuses on helping students use data, models and uncertainty to reason about ecological and environmental systems. The aim is not only to teach technical tools, but also to make assumptions visible, connect mechanisms to observations and interpret results carefully.

Courses and themes

  • Modelling for Sustainability.
  • Modelling and Simulation.
  • Analysis and Modelling Lab.
  • Statistics, simulation, GLMs/GLMMs and reproducible analysis.
  • Conservation demography, movement ecology and decision-oriented modelling.

Supervision approach

In thesis projects, students usually begin by exploring data and the ecological system before locking in the final question. Once the signal or pattern is clear, the work moves toward a reproducible pipeline, careful analysis and concise interpretation.
